My name is David C. Kniess, Jr. I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Connecticut. I now reside in in Los Angeles, California, and work as an editor for DIRECTV. I came to Los Angeles in 1996 after a stint in the Navy, and finally earning my undergrad in communications.
I came to Los Angeles with the dream of becoming a screenwriter, someone who would eventually direct his own work. It was around this time I realized that documentary filmmaking was what I was looking for all along. It would give me the creative freedom I desired, and allow me to delve further into the human condition.
My first documentary, and my current project, both deal with war and the effects it has had on those it has touched. War and its aftermath is a hard subject to undertake and can become a very emotional journey, both for the individuals involved, and myself included.
Both of these stories are very personal to me, and both have touched my life in different ways. One was a high school teacher who inspired me to find myself in Vietnam. The other was a chance meeting on a flight east, a happy go lucky kid who died in Iraq doing what he believed was right and just.
David currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, daughter, and son.
