Paul Knight was born on December 18, 1946 in Missoula, Montana. He arrived in Vietnam in August of 1967 and was assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines. By November of the same year, he was assigned Forward Air Controller (FAC) and sent to Hill 861. As the FAC, Paul was responsible for calling in air strikes, re-supplies, and medical evacuations of injured personnel. His role as Forward Air Controller, undoubtedly, saved countless lives during the Siege at Khe Sanh.
After being discharged from the Marine Corps, Paul moved to Oregon in 1975, where he worked as a licensed Realtor, and Real Estate Investor for 22 years. In 1989, he finished his undergraduate degree, earning a BA in Business Management. Paul also has a son named Jeff, 28, who accompanied him on his journey back to Khe Sanh in the summer of 2000.
Paul Knight is one of the original members of Khe Sanh Veterans Association, founded my Navy Chaplain Ray Stubbe. He was also the managing editor of the Khe Sanh Veterans Newsletter, "Red Clay", for 2 years. Paul Knight currently resides in Vancouver, Washington with his wife Betty. |
